Bugatti Bolide | Motor Authority

Bugatti is concluding Chiron production with two new models—the Mistral roadster and the track-focused Bolide. The Bolide, inspired by a 2020 concept, features a unique carbon-fiber tub, race-style seating, X-shaped steering wheel, and quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W-16 engine with 1,578 hp (1,824 hp on racing fuel). Priced at $4.3 million, Bugatti plans to produce 40 units, with deliveries beginning in 2024. The design includes safety features, distinct climate control vents, and a sculptural steering wheel that can be displayed separately.

Hyundai Elantra | CarBuzz

Hyundai is considering fitting the Elantra N with a larger 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, departing from the trend of downsizing and electrification. The facelifted Elantra N, launched this year, retains its 276 hp and 289 lb-ft of torque, offering a choice between manual and dual-clutch transmissions. A decision on the next-generation Elantra N with a 2.5-liter turbo is expected within the year, potentially arriving around 2027. The Sonata N Line already features a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with 290 hp.

Tesla faces legal scrutiny as a judge allows a trial over a fatal 2019 crash involving Autopilot. The plaintiff alleges Autopilot failed to avoid the accident, and internal documents suggest Tesla was aware of system limitations. Judge Reid Scott ruled the case can proceed to trial, citing a marketing strategy that portrayed products as autonomous. If found negligent, Tesla may be liable for damages in similar cases. A recent California jury ruled in favor of Tesla in another Autopilot-related death, highlighting the complexity of holding automakers accountable for self-driving system failures.

Pony.ai, a self-driving technology specialist, has secured the first license in Guangzhou, China, to test its autonomous truck technology in formation on open roads. The "1 + N" strategy involves one autonomous truck leading a pack of L4 self-driving trucks, reducing operating costs and improving efficiency. The license allows Pony.ai to test five PonyTron autonomous trucks in Guangzhou, complementing its existing autonomous truck operations in areas like Guangdong Province, with 3 million km in self-driving truck tests and 610,000 km of autonomous commercial operations completed to date.

Toyota's foray into solid-state battery technology reveals a cautious rollout, with annual production starting in 2027 limited to several hundred tons. Mass production on a larger scale isn't anticipated until 2030. The output will power "several tens of thousands of vehicles," falling short of Toyota's annual vehicle production in the millions. Despite ambitious goals, like achieving a 600-mile range by 2027, the initial deployment may be limited, with speculation that high-end vehicles could initially adopt solid-state batteries. Toyota aims to sell over three million electric vehicles by 2030.

Ford has filed a patent application for inflatable bumpers aimed at improving pedestrian safety with a focus on preventing legs from going underneath the vehicle during an impact. The technology, designed for larger vehicles like the F-150, includes inflatable devices to prevent pedestrians from going under and reduce relative movement between the femur and tibia. The inflatable bumpers could still be made of steel or aluminum, according to the patent application.

This guide advises that while some vehicles benefit from premium gas, most drivers can use regular unleaded without sacrificing performance. It explains octane ratings, recommending following the manufacturer's guidelines in the owner's manual. It notes the difference between recommended and required fuel types, warns against putting the wrong fuel in the tank, and touches on factors influencing gasoline prices. The average U.S. prices are $3.28 for regular unleaded, $3.75 for mid-grade, and $4.09 for high-octane premium. The article suggests using higher-octane gas only if required by the vehicle.
